Meet the founder
I dream of being a bridge for women of the diaspora back to our Ancestral cultures. All that I bring to Our Mothers’ Light I owe to the women who came before me and to those back on our Ancestral lands who in their benevolence have been my teachers.
I’m a doula of 14 years, an apprentice healer, childbirth educator and mother of four. My path to birth work has been one of synchronicities. I found myself being asked be a few of my close friends to be with them during their birthing time and in these times I found my true calling to be a helper, supporter and teacher of women.
I traveled to Africa for the first time in 2006 as a study abroad student, and when my feet touched the African soil, my knees buckled and a fell into complete submission to the land-I was in awe!
The air smelled so familiar, the people told me “welcome home.” I was indeed home. I had done what so many before me wanted to do, take my spirit, my soul, and my body back to our ancestral land.
About OML
Growing up in America, I see how other women, like me, have suffered a disconnect from our cultural traditions and rituals as a result of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Thus, I have taken up the charge to recover my Ancestral memory and restore my cultural traditions for pregnancy, birth and postpartum healing among the diaspora.
The OML model of care is based on African Ancestral culture’s birth and mothering traditions and is fused with my various birth trainings and personal experiences. It is an honor for me to share the light of the mothers who came before me.
It is my sincerest wish that this knowledge will be passed down by the women of the diaspora as I believe that it can transform maternal and infant mortality rates, as well as create a safety net for mothers, their children and families, allowing them to thrive and grow together in love.

Throughout my wife's pregancy, she was a calming factor in our lives, someone who reassured my wife through her own knowledge, and experience.
